It wasn't a curse after all

Joe and I thought that surely, with the amount of cursing we do on a regular basis, that Jack’s first word would be something like “cocksmoker” (I know, we’re terrible). Well, I am happy to report that is not the case.

This morning as he was playing with one of his Baby Einstein blocks (the yellow one with a sun/mirror, bananas, yellow written in three languages, and a quacking duck on the sides), I asked if he was playing with the duck block. He said “duck.” I was shocked. Surely he’s not talking at 9 months! I repeated duck and he mimicked me. I asked Joe, “Was that his first word? Did he say duck? Did you hear that?” Joe wasn’t sure, so I asked Jack to say duck again several times. Indeed, he obliged and said duck clearly! Of course, he stopped as soon as I turned the camera on. But he’s been muttering duck on and off for the past hour as he’s been playing.

That is not all, dear readers! Last night we had dinner at Chris & Jenn’s. Jack played on the floor while we ate Thai curry chicken. I looked over to check on him as he was playing with their sofa chair and he was standing! The little tyke had pulled himself to standing from the floor. Previously he had only done this from a sitting position on my lap. Amazing. This kid does something new every day now.

Lest I forget, Joe took Jack to the zoo last Sunday. They saw a chimp, from whom Jack learned to blow raspberries. Ha ha!

I love this kid. He is so much fun!

  1. You know – it’s funny, I swore up and down that my first child’s words would be something horrific. And she sweetly said “dada” so I was okay there.

Except, her “dada” was not around so I really wasn’t too happy about it. 🙂 But, it was a word!

How exciting – Congrats Jack on “duck”!
