A first I'd rather we hadn't experienced

On the way to daycare this morning (yes!  we found daycare!  yay!), we got in a car accident.  The other driver hit the rear door on my car and Jack was in the back seat.  It was not a bad accident, and we are okay (just a little sore from the stress, I think, and Jack was a little freaked out but didn’t cry) but it scared the hell out of me!  The other driver is clearly at fault but it’s still a huge hassle to have to get my car fixed (I suspect they’ll have to replace the door entirely) and get a new carseat for Jack.

I was so shocked that my car was hit that my jaw dropped and I just stared at the other driver for a bit before pulling over to the side of the road.  I have never been in an accident while driving, never been pulled over, nothing.  And I really wish Jack hadn’t been in the car when it happened!!  For those of you wondering what the guidelines are for replacing a carseat after an accident, I found this nice checklist.

So my next question is, what is your favorite carseat if cost was not a concern??

  1. OH MY GOD
I’m so glad that you’re both okay and totally amazed that Jack didn’t cry! He’s a good kid! 🙂

The book goes out tomorrow … I’m SO lame about the post office even though I work NEXT DOOR to one. I actually FORGOT the book yesterday but had the envelope. Today both are sitting where I NORMALLY put my purse *eyeroll* but didn’t. Hi! I’m lame!

  2. Alameda seems to be a hotbed of car accidents. After driving for almost 10 years, 3-4 of that in downtown SF areas, I had my first accident in Alameda. Three months later Gunnar decided to have his first accident in over 15 years (10 of those living in SF), in Alameda. They should factor that into the cost of living in Alameda. 😉

  3. Dear me. You poor thing. I’ve been in an accident before (pre-baby) and it’s tough enough without the concern of having your favorite person in the back seat, too. I’m so glad you are both ok.

I’d get a Britax if cost were no concern.

  4. I, too, would have a Britax if I could afford it. They seem to have the best side-impact rating whereas many of the standard car seats the rest of us use aren’t test for side-impact, but only front and back.

I’m so glad you guys are okay.

  5. I’m so glad to hear that you both are okay! Stupid driver! As far as replacing the car seat, do you have to replace it no matter what kind of accident your in? Or did the car seat get messed up in the accident?

I’m very surprised Jack didn’t cry…even I probably would have cried if I were in a car accident 😛

  6. We’d get the Britax that goes up to 80 pounds using the 5-point harness.

  8. Yikes! So glad that you’re both okay!

  9. Holy cow, so glad you are both okay! Accidents are scary and the ones i have been in make me cry, so Jack is very impressive. Hope you aren’t too achy tomorrow.

I am no help on the car seat, but check if the insurance people will reimburse you for any of the cost.

  11. Sorry about your accident. I’m glad you are both alright.

yes the Britax are great car seats. We got one from Brian’s Grandma. Nolan has not had the joy of using it yet. Seeing how he is 11 lbs and a itty bitty thing. We hope to move him to it in the next month. I hate hate hate infant car seats.
