we were given Love You Forever when Nolan was born. The first moth I would read it to him and cry.

Now we have a few more but need to add. I think he will be getting books for Christmas.

Pat the Bunny, The Shape of Me, Goodnight Moon, and Everyone Poops are oft-requested around here. As are Pancakes for Breakfast, Andy (That's My Name!), Are You My Mother?, Olivia, Larry Gets Lost in Seattle, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and The Poky Little Puppy. Other childhood favorites I haven't gotten around to getting for Andy yet: Harold and the Purple Crayon, Where the Wild Things Are, Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See, Hop on Pop, Strega Nona, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Madeline, and The Runaway Bunny. My personal library as a child was HUGE. I'm talking HUNDREDS of books, mostly little golden books that were 49 cents each at the grocery store, but tons of others, too. Go to the children's section of the library & just pick 15 random books. Then in a few days, bring them back and pick 15 more random ones. You'll figure out your favorites real fast.

I often give You Are My I love You by MaryAnn K. Cusimano to new moms. It is beautifully written and beautifully illustrated. Another favorite in our family, although Jack is a bit young for it, is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. My kids all loved it and I love that they have given it to each other's children.

Another tradition in baby showers around here is to include a book with each gift. The mom to be goes home with a basket of books loved by her friends and their children.
